Biography

(Updated 2024)

Alice Ningci Jiang was born in Beijing, China in 2003. Though born and raised in Beijing, she received a Western education at international schools from an early age, which rooted both Eastern and Western cultures within her. At times, she finds herself juggling between them like a tug of war and trying to find a balance in between. Such experiences in search of clarity and an answer inspired her to reflect on the fundamental elements within people and explore various ways to tell tales of the experiences, conflicts, and feelings shared amongst people. Her recent works delve into the simultaneous occurrence of seemingly opposing feelings, such as closeness and separation, love and detest, longing for solitary contemplation, and desire for intimacies. The paintings may be seen as a way of storytelling, a short story of a secret and untold tale of what if the opposing ideas in our mind come together, and people become vessels of transportation.
She is currently studying at New York University, pursuing a BFA in Studio Art, and is estimated to complete her degree in 2026. To complement and nourish her studies in studio art, particularly painting, she has also completed a minor in philosophy at New York University. Her works have been exhibited in group shows around New York City, including the curatorial collective Loft 121, 80WSE, and some gallery spaces within New York University.
