An Excerpt from a piece of writing in the show:

The introductory paragraph goes as follows:

The show explores the state of growing and moving away from tradition. This change can take place when leaving one’s family home. Like when birds leave their mother's nest and explore a life that is independent, they still share similarities with their mother, whether it's their culture, habits, or language. For example, the painting "Fly Fly" marks the beginning of the departure from the nest, when the bird was still developing its feathers and courage. Where would she go, in the vastness of the sky?

Tradition is sometimes not a choice, but an overarching prescription imposed on individuals and societies. The rules can be limiting, at times even suffocating, but they can also be a generative starting point. The works in this show take on the second stance; each of them reinterprets Chinese ink drawing and see what happens from there. In “Family Tree,” fruit-like figures grow and transform into Ginko leaves as they fall from the same trunk, like how individuals take on different forms despite growing on the same tree. Through reinterpretation and experimentation, humor and seeming contradictions seep through the gaps between worlds. In the process of translating and transmuting cultures and traditions, the works arrive at and take root in other homes, those away from home.
